Go-Daigo and the Kenmu
Restoration in Fourteenth Century Japan
[ send
me this paper ]
A 6 page overview of the reign of the emperor Go-Daigo in fourteenth century
Japan. Notes the societal factors which made the policies of Go-Daigo workable.
These factors included the ravages of disease on the civilian aristocracy and
the fragmentation of the warrior class which had occurred as a result of
regional factors and issues of loyalty. It was probably many of the same
factors, however, which ensured Go-Daigo's ultimate failure at retaining the
throne. Although his downfall is sometimes attributed to what largely seems a
series of chance events, it was the political, economic and social trends of the
day were ultimately responsible for this downfall. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
